Sink, Sewer & Pilot Light
Last Thursday our friend and neighbor installed the sink which Joseph and Kim gave us. It looks wonderful and really dresses up the bathroom. Brilliant measuring job to buy something that fits so snug. Makes our old sink look pretty ugly. After four trips to the hardware store, David was able to accomplish the task. Our old pipes make the job harder.
The same night I heard water dripping outside and told Noel. He knew exactly what it was, backed up sewer. Noel called a plumber who came the next day and snaked it. He found a several socks. He advised, “Don’t load the washer so high. “ I’d never heard that advice before.
Saturday morning the first thing Noel said, “the pilot light went out.” No wonder it was cold and I kept threatening to put an extra blanket on last night.
There should be a book "Idiots Guide to Lighting a Pilot Light." Published
I read the instructions and could find nothing that looked like the pilot light. The green starter button of course didn't work. We called a neighbor, who brought a torch, ignored the instructions and got it lit. It would help if they said, “the pilot light shown on this page... is not visible but hidden from view. Get on your back and look up behind the grill.”. My reading skills didn't help at all.
When it takes a regular furnace man 15 minutes to light the thing, I seriously doubted if I could. But I did try by reading the instructions. I should have paid more attention to what the furnace man did earlier in the season.
Days like this I think I’ll skip the condominium and go straight to the retirement center. They take care of sewer lines, toilets and furnaces. Plus they serve meals and clean. But please, NO Bingo.
When I feel complainy I think of the pioneers who came to Cache Valley and lived in dugouts while they built their cabins or homes.
Who knew socks could escape the washer into the sewer line??
ReplyDeleteNot me, I guess they float to the top of a wash load, perhaps they spin out. Now we know where the mystery socks disappear.
