Mo Betta Steak

Sharla and I ate at Mo Betta Steaks tonight
.

You pick up and order at the counter  similar to Costa Vida..  I ordered Teriyaki chicken and steak which included two big snow balls of rice and a salad. I have kidded Brian about serving rice with steak, why not a potato?   "It's the Hawaiian way." Brian was right, it was very filling.
I asked if Brian was working to say "Hello to him ".  No he took the night off for the USU BYU ballgame,  BUSTED.

All the meals were served in Styrofoam containers
I guess this saves on dishwashing and dishes but it's
hard to cut the meat and everything is squished together.  Next time bring we'll have to bring our own plates.

The Rest of the Story later.....

We headed back to USU to attend a instrumental ensemble concert.  The concert hall was dark.  "Something's wrong here." We walked inside the Caine Fine Arts building to find a poster. "Rats" the concert is next week." What else was playing at 7:30? "Shakespeare's "Tempest" produced by five professional actors from England.

I had met two of the troupe in the barber shop. I never made any promises to see their production because  1. I usually can't hear all the words, 2. Even if I'm reading I don't understand. In college I used cliff notes just to get through my Shakespeare class. The last customer of the day was the actor who Stephanie cut. I suggested Stephanie attend their production and represent the Barber Shop. She and her new husband planned on a movie. "You can see a movie anytime, go to the" Tempest"  When the young actor learned she was a newly wed, he wanted gift her tickets but he didn't have any.. So he gave a healthy tip  to cover the cost of tickets.

Sharla seemed interested in"The "Tempest" and thought it would have been better than the Instrumental ensembles so we decided to try it. We paid a healthy price, could have saved 5.00 for Seniors if I had known about it. We sat on  last row in the middle section. We saw Steph and Nick about five rows ahead of us on the left side.

The five actors played parts of 15 different characters.  They did a great job but I couldn't hear every word and had no idea what was going on. Sharla and I both took naps. At the first intermission, We high tailed it out of there with 3-4 other groups. There was one more hour which I refused to suffer through. I'm very curious what Steph will say about the production when I see her next.

Well the saxophone quartet, and the tubaphone ensemble will have another week to practice. It would really help if I could read a poster correctly.

So the food was great but the entertainment was a Bust.

I tried reading the program notes when I got home but lost  interest  by paragraph two.

Who's Been Sleeping in My Chair? ( Car)

Oct 4, 2011

Have you ever gone shopping and come out to find a stranger sleeping in your car, with the seat reclined? I can see how this would (could) happen because cars today aren’t built like the 50 & 60’s. In the Good Ol Days one could tell a Chevy from a Ford by it’s shape. Cars used to have decorative  hood ornaments, chrome bumpers, fins and two tone colors. Now days cars are indistinguishable with their aerodynamic shape and wrap around plastic bumpers. Recently I asked my husband, “How do you tell a Hyundai from a Honda?”

“The H emblem on the trunk of Hyundai is italic. “ Now I know, it’s not from the shape of the car but the font.
Anyway this happened to my co-worker and I last month.  We stopped at Sallys after work to buy some supplies. I finished first and didn’t want to wait for her in the long check out line. Exhausted, tired and hungry I just wanted to rest. I walked out to the car, slid in the passenger seat, put my sunglasses on to block out the world and reclined the seat to get a little shut eye. I smelled tobacco and thought it must be coming from the SMOKE shop next to Sallys.

Just getting relaxed when I heard a commotion. A man and woman came toward the car like he had something to say. Why would this stranger want to talk to me? The girl in front of him opened the drivers car door and he said,” You’re in my car.” Startled, I looked around; the upholstery and dashboard were different than Lauri’s car. The lady proceeded to sit in the driver’s seat while I absorbed this piece of information. I looked passed her to Lauri’s silver car on her left and realized my mistake. “I sat in the wrong silver car.” I uttered. “And my friend is probably inside  the store laughing at me.”  I stepped out without further explanation and walked past Sallys window and peered inside. Lauri, absorbed at check - out stand, hadn’t seen me. Whew, I  slid into her car. Yes, the seat was already reclined from my previous ride. I pulled my shades down over my eyes and started over.  I chuckled to myself and thought of all the things I could have said to the strangers one car over.
“This car is more comfortable”

“I thought I would get in a little shut eye before you arrived.”

“Is that Marijuana I smell in your car?”

My story reminds me of my friend Sera who came out of Wal-mart looking for her car. She slide into the driver’s seat, reached for her seat belt and pulled it across her lap to fasten. As she latched the belt she noticed a stranger sitting in the passenger seat. With no explanation she jumped right out and saw her husband in the distance splitting a gut laughing at her.

Back to my original premise If Lauri had parked next to a 57 Chevy I   never would have sat  in the wrong car for a nap.

Fly Flies in Food

Tuesday after work we met at Texas Roadhouse for Steph's birthday dinner to catch the 7.99 special.

A fly flew around her as she talked to us. She tried shooing  it away and it dive-bombed into her gravy. She had been talking so much very little of her chicken steak had been eaten. This sort of grossed her out. She paused wondering whether to eat it or not and we discussed the issue at hand. The fly was on the north side of her gravy covered chicken. I would have started eating at the south and worked my way up to the fly and stopped.

A waitress came to fill glasses and I told her. "There's a fly in Steph's gravy."

"Did your food come with a fly in it?"

I interrupted, "No, the fly wasn't in her steak; the fly flew into her gravy and drowned."

"Do you want us to replace your chicken fried steak?"

Steph, being the nice person she is, wasn't sure if she wanted them to go to all the bother yet she wasn't too crazy about eating her food.

The new waitress who wasn't sure about policy, said she would check with her boss.

Soon he arrived, "Is  there a fly in your food?"

Since I was on the outside I spoke for Steph," No, the fly dive bombed her gravy and drowned."  By this time we had finished eating. Another steak was cooked for her and placed in a doggie  bag  The manager had a sense of humor thanked us ( her) for killing the fly.

What's Happening on Campus?

Cacoon
This morning as I walked to the Taggart Student Center this is what I saw.

I don't know if these guys set up camp early morning to gain attention or whether they had been cacooning all night.
By the way, we got our sidewalk back. Where the students are walking was a temporary road this summer.

Later in the day Cheri said, "Did you bring your camera?"

"Yes, why?"

"Jake Garn is speaking upstairs"  It climbed upstairs but he wasn't there.

"You led me on a wild good chase."  I learned he was in the HUB speaking.

By the time I got there he was to is last six paragraphs of his speech.  He spoke about the importance of getting an education. "Keep your brains active."

Free Things

There's not many things in life that are free, We receive warnings, if  bargain or advertisement sounds too good, look out.
Here at USU everything  costs from tuition, to  activities to slice of pizza..  But I've found  three things of value which are free on campus.

Each morning as I climb Old Main Hill I enjoy the beauty of the  flowers, mowed lawn, ground cover and trees. I see students pull weeds, tug hoses and mow the lawn and make tree rings. I'm the recipient of their hard work. I get to enjoy  the beauty of campus for free.

At the Aggie Bike Shop I found free air,
Hey, many service stations charge for air now days

Free classes are offered at the LDS Institute of Religion. I took a D& C class this summer and really enjoyed it.

So there are still a few things of value that are free out there.

Happy Birthday Dad

Often I think of Dad when I cut an old man's hair
who wants a zero up the sides and who has a light complexion. I just hate cutting hair this short unless it's for military.  I used to cut Dad's with a number one blade. I'm not sure if he could tell the difference.

But he always went to Weldon who took it back to high close zero on the sides.

Happy Birthday Dad, I've been thinking about you and your hair cuts.

How I Drive Myself Crazy

Ok, everyone it's been a while since I've talked about photography so here goes. What is it that brings me to a screeching halt and I back up or I slam on the brakes and turn around to take a photo. There is always a reason, a particular item that attracts my attention.

Last week was a brake screecher, no not really, Lauri and I passed the same field and barn every time we commute, but this time it had bales of hay lined up in rows leading or pointing towards the barn. I didn't have my camera nor the time so I made a mental note, to return, which I did.
Which do you like the best, shooting down the middle, barn on left or right.

This first example shoots straight down the middle

same pic cropped taking out foreground, fence

Barn on the right

with or without sprinkler wheel

Notice when I put the barn on the left With mountain on the right, the patterns in the bales of hay disappear, not as strong.

Noel likes this pic the best but the hay pattern is lost, which is why i stopped. I like how the pine trees on the left in above pictures balance out the barn to the far right.

Ok, one more example. I posted this pic on facbook the other night which shows three sun rays poking through the clouds

But if I broke it down into what I shot which do you like the best?

left sunray,

right sun rays

OK, now you see how I drive myself crazy, when I shoot a zillion pictures then try and decide which is best. Isn't this more fun that talking about recipes? Thank you for listening and tell which you like best and why

I should change my bumper sticker from "I Brake for Wal-mart to I brake for Beauty"

Whats New on Campus?

Last week one of the campus sidewalks was turned into a road. Fences were put up and sand was dumped on the sidewalk. Pedestrian warning signs erected. What is going on? I learned that the 4th north, US Highway 89, Champ Drive. entrance to Old Main Parking lot was closed because of construction needs for the new College of Agriculture building.

Now pedestrians have to be careful

of on coming cars in the middle of campus

I’ve heard mumblings about this in the barber shop from campus employees. “Let the Old Main workers find parking around and off campus like the rest of us.”

Friday one of the provosts came in and I said,
“Hey, some people think you guys should find your own parking like the rest of us instead of having a special sidewalk turned into a road.” The provost joked around and said, “Every morning I drive up 4th north then forget the parking lot is closed and have to turn around and backtrack to the new temporary road.” At least the Provost had a sense of humor.

The school paper reported, "Foot traffic in the area is high, and a five- mile-per-hour speed limit will be strictly enforced." I guess I better not drive on the new temp road.

July 5, 2011 I just learned today that his reconverted sidewalk originally was a road called Champ Road which led to Old Main.
