For some reason I mis interpreted the sign and thought the couples would kiss directly on the lips. NO, take a closer look at the poster. They both kiss an I-Pod which is held between them. I thought the white streak between them couples on the poster was a printing glitch.
The competition started at 11:00 when the lunch crowd started flowing through the hall. Nine single couples competing against one married couple. Bodies and arms draped across each other the clock ticked away. Bookstore employees and assigned “couple watch” judges for rule infringements.
Couples settling in for the long haul.
I put my money on these two couples who were very relaxed, closed their eyes and took a nap. The married couple is in the middle
Two girls entered, which made people raise an eye. I could tell they weren't very comfortable with the idea, didn’t know where to touch or hold. Held i-Pod off to the side of her lips.
This couple quit first, when she became dizzy.
Rules to make the competition harder were imposed as time elapsed. After one hour, no touching of bodies, except on face.
If I were a betting woman I would still stick with the married couple. Another couple I would bet against because he was so much taller, had to spread his legs to lower himself to her height .
Rule number 2. Must put one hand on top of your head. Still nine couples held on for another hour.
Hold on arm straight up in the air was the last rule. Two hours and couples started to get eliminated. I had to cut hair and missed some of this. At the end of my hair cut we heard yells, whoops , in the hall. Were more people out or had a winner been declared.
I hurried out to see what happened. We had winners! Good think I ‘m not a betting woman, My married couple came in second. the sweaty young man, who was so tall, had won.
Here they sit down to enjoy a drink. He’s pouring sweat and she looks cool as a cucumber. “It’s the first time we have kissed.” He related.
Winning Couple kissing at the beginning of competition.
After the prizes, pictures, congratulations and cleaning up, the crowd dispersed. After the Kissing stopped the Hugging Began. Two students filled in the same spot holding these two signs.
I approached the girl, “So you’re giving hugs away?” She walked up and gave me a hug. That was sweet. Anytime you see students doing something crazy, out of the ordinary they are usually filling a class assignment by taking survey, or taking notes on your reaction.” Are you here on a class assignment? Are you from a psychology class?” She indicated yes and kept waving her poster.
People ask, “What are you doing for the weekend or Valentines Day? I’ve had my fun. All this excitement makes the rest of the weekend look pretty boring.
What a blast of an event.
ReplyDeleteI'm imagining how tired their necks were.
The university paper should hire your coverage!
yes, I noticed that couples who had quit were rubbing their necks. Hey I'm up for hire. I saw a serious looking camera, digital SLR and asked the owner if he was shooting for the paper. No, he represented the Bookstore in their promotional. Maybe they have to send photos to iPod. I'm sure the Statesman was represented somehwere among the cameras in the crowd.
ReplyDeleteThat WAS fun competition. I would have loved to have been there.... as an observer. :)
