I have hoped that Hertha has been looking down to help us in hard times and watching over our families sort of like an angel. Much has transpired since her death. We have grown older and aged while she remains young. Hopefully she is decorating mansions on high for all of us because I don’t like to decorate.
Here’s some photos to remind us of her Hertha and her talents. Her sewing room in the basement where she worked until wee hours of the morning. The rule, Don’t call Hertha before 10:00 am. She always said sewing was her creative outlet. Good that she liked to sew because it certainly put me in knots.

This is a picture of Jana in Hertha's sewing room

I can certainly relate to this wall hanging. I spent nearly as much time ripping as sewing

This is her bedroom which she redecorated after she was diagnosed the first time.

This wall hanging is in Tiffany’s basement. I always think of Hertha when I see it. Jana is on the couch with baby Arielle

Here's some more of Hertha's embroidery work and wall decorations

Close up of machine embroidery in mother's dining room.
Each of us have things which she made and gave to us.
I love this quote which Hertha embroidered. We’re off the hook when it comes to housework Let’s keep things in perspective. “Dull Women Keep Immaculate Homes.” Thank you very much.

This is the last time I visited Hertha in October of 1989. She was brave trying to recover from her major surgery in California. I left knowing I probably wouldn't see her again in this life and that things would change.

Three months later she passed away. Here we are after Hertha’s funeral. Jocile, mother, and Kristen lost weight. The rest of us put it on.

Going back in time:
spring of 1989 Outside the Boise temple after doing a session together. A year later at this time she was gone.

First day of school in 1954. See my Roy Rogers lunch pail. Angela, Hertha, Jocile, Lora Dawn in front.

Hertha was born on Dec 7th, 1943 the 2nd anniversary of Pear Harbor in the Memorial Park
Hospital.
She weighed 9 lb 6 oz. Do we have any grandchildren whose birth weight equals Aunt Hertha’s? She had dark hair and mother called her “my little Indian.”
Happy Birthday Hertha, We Love you.
Rylee's birthday is December 6th (today) and Taylee's birth weight was 9lbs 8oz (close).
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, I enjoyed seeing pictures I've never seen before and thinking about my memories of Hertha. I too am lucky enough to have something handmade by Hertha. Wonder if I could find it???
Yes, Hertha, a talented woman. I learned a lot from her. And our relationship took on a sweeter deepness when she chose to learn from me, as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Hertha. I love you. See you when I get there.
