Lorenzo Hill Hatch House

For all you Ison cousins I thought you might be interested in this piece of news

Saturday I visited the newly restored LHHatch home in Franklin, Idaho. The town celebrated Idaho Days, the oldest town in Idaho. The local paper stated the project was a ten year project funded by the Idaho Transportation Department, the Idaho Permanent Building Fund and Historical Society .

This photo was taken in 1990. I can't really tell a difference in the outside of the home so I'm guessing most the restoration was inside. The front door does look more recessed in this pic. Originally there was a porch going around the east and south. There's a picture of this in Grandma Ison's history.

A little disappointed, I expected to see the home restored with LHH original furnishings. Instead the shorn up building, had professional displays and exhibits of the area history starting with Lake Bonneville, the Indians, the trappers, BrighamYoung, the railroad and on the the Ritewood Eggs, and Mink farms. Two panels were dedicated to Lorenzo Hill Hatch history and his home.

I talked to one Franklin resident who sat on the board responsible for the restoration. She said in order to get the funding the board agreed with the historical display of the area instead of physical restoration of furnishing. So LHH furniture sits in a storage shed.

Notice the cradle which he made

These panels discuss the architecture of his home

From the Hatch Home I visited the Franklin Relic Hall or Museum.

In this museum is a portrait of LHH and more things which Lorenzo Hill Hatch had made. Also there are copies of "Willing Hands" a biography by Jo Ann F. Hatch, a typed of LHH journal by Ruth Savage Hilton, and a USU student thesis on the LHHatch home.

USU special collections has some original letters by LH Hatch. He is buried in Logan cemetery. I went to the Logan cemetery and shot these photos of LHHatch headstone. Lorenzo's at the left and two of the four wives to the center and right.

Unlike cousin Coy, I don't have a gps for location. It's located on the west side of cemetery facing east next to old fence, The Spectrum is on the other side of fence. Some close ups

Katherine Karren Hatch is our gg grandmother.

  2. He is my uncle. I thought the bottom floor had been gutted before the state got hold of it.

  3. Ra Nae, I don't know anything about how or what they restored. The hardwood floor looks and feels new. I got my information from the Citizen. I don't know if the half a million dollars all went to this building.
